Our Story

The vision of Shame and Regret began with Joe Campana, Matt Baumgartner, and one-too-many cocktails. As long-time friends, co-workers, and business partners, Joe and Matt had entertained the idea of opening their own bar together in Colorado Springs. Joe gave Matt the opportunity to become his business partner and complete his dream to own and run a bar.

They knew exactly what they wanted to create — a comfortable “go-to spot” for the locals, but with a hint of sophistication and a heaping dose of spice.

The result was Shame & Regret.

What began as a humble back-alley location quickly transformed into a popular gothic sanctuary — a classy, yet comfortable retreat — your new after work hangout spot.

Experience temptation at its finest.

(And don’t worry: Your secrets are safe with us).

Joe Campana

Joe has been a vital part of the Downtown community since 2011. In addition to Shame & Regret, Joe also owns several successful sister establishments, including The Rabbit Hole (a sleek underground eatery), Supernova, Bonny & Read (one of the leading seafood establishments in the Springs), STIR Coffee & Cocktails (a cozy neighborhood hangout), and Cork & Cask (a Victorian-style wine and whiskey bar).

Matt Baumgartner

Matt has been in the bar and restaurant industry since he was 16-years-old. He has worked with a number of big-name-brands, including Outback Steakhouse, Fox and Hound, and Lone Star Steakhouse.

Matt and Joe first became acquainted at Phantom Canyon, where the two worked alongside each other as peers. So when Joe decided it was time to build his eclectic empire, he was quick to place his trust in Matt. Matt soon became the general manager of Joe’s eclectic eatery, The Rabbit Hole, where he created a close-knit community of customers and crew members alike.

Now, you can regularly find Matt at Shame & Regret, building his business, proudly standing beside one of his oldest friends and colleagues.
